RE: Heated tanks???

One other way to ensure unfrozen tanks is to spend the cold winter months in a place that doesn't get cold. We need tourists in Florida to spur our economy this winter. Just a thought.

We have a similar rule. We get around it by covering the TT. Since it can't be seen it conforms. This may work for you also.

Just checked my notes to make sure. You are correct its 1000lbs.
Thats a lot of tongue weight for a TT that size. Maybe you should recheck your measuring setup again.

I have a F250 7.3L with "D" rated tires. I run them at 65PSI and they work well. As long as you are not overloading them don't sweat it. Mine work and yours probably will also.

I don't know if this would work for everyone but I installed two extra stabalizers. I mounted them just forward of the axles facing fore and aft. Completely (almost) eliminated the bounce inside. I think the distance from the front jacks and the rear is just too far thus causing a "spring effect" with the only support being the springs. Can't say about side to side as I didn't have that problem. I just wanted the TT to feel completely stable. My motorhome didn't flex like the TT. The exta jacks solved the problem.

RE: Check Your Balls !!

The following information describes the chrome plating / rechroming process.
(see this checklist of items to improve your project.)
1. Receiving and Inspection. The first step is to determine what work you, our customer, wants done, and to assess what will be required to achieve the desired result. Metal can deteriorate and corrode to a point where restoration is outrageously expense; after evaluating the part, we must first agree on a price, level of quality and expected completion date.
2. Stripping. Parts are stripped to bare metal; all paint, dirt, oil and grease, rust, old plating and any other foreign material must be removed. Items brought to us stripped clean will cost less to plate then if we perform the stripping step (sand blasting is a typical method for stripping parts).
3. Polishing. Polishing is the removal of surface metal using a series of abrasive wheels and sanding belts (at any plating shop, the words "sand," "grind" and "polish" basically mean the same thing). We start by using coarse-cutting grinders, working down to soft cloth buffs. The end result is a high-gloss polished metal part with all pitting, scratches and impurities removed.
4. Wiring and Racking. We use hooks, racks, copper wire and other methods to hold parts in the plating tanks; this also provide electrical contact to the part.
5. Cleaning. Parts must be surgically clean before plating -- the slightest spec of dirt, grease, oil, buffing compound, rust, or other foreign matter will cause a reject. In our shop we use an elaborate series of soap, acid and water solutions to guarantee a clean, spotless surface.
6. Copper Plating and Buffing. Parts are copper plated and then buffed to a brilliant shine. This is an important step in the process, as copper offers an added layer of corrosion protection and helps to fill-in polishing lines and pits. (While copper is very thin, many layers of coppering and sanding can slowly build-up surfaces. In fact, copper can be used to level and fill much like a painter uses primer and block sanding.)
7. Wiring, Racking and Re-cleaning. The processes of steps 4 and 5 are repeated before nickel plating.
8. Nickel Plating. It is the nickel which provides the deep luster of a chromed part, in addition to providing another layer of protection for long-lasting chrome. Parts remain in our nickel plating tank for about an hour.
9. Chrome Plating. Chrome, the final plating step, is actually a protective coating over the shiny nickel which prevents the nickel from tarnishing.
10. Final Inspection. Parts are cleaned and inspected; some parts may require minor buffing
no hydrogen, no atmosphere required, low heat

You are much better off without crome balls. Crome plating weakens the steel underneath when it is dipped in the acid bath to accept the crome plating.
I will continue to use non-plated balls, and use a bit of greese on them to they don't wear out to soon.
Good thing you noticed the crack, not the failure! It never hurts to have a ball rated at 10,000 pounds! You might have to replace the hitch mount with out that has a 1-1/4 hole in it to accept the higher rating ball. Yes a larger hole is required to accept a stronger ball.

In an earlier life I designed plating processes for industrial purposes. I'm very curious as to what in the choming process you think would weaken steel. I've never heard of such a thing! I'm not sure the science will back you up.

When you think you have it bad ask someone from New York City. They pay Federal Income Tax, State Income Tax and CITY INCOME TAX. I'm sure there is more but they have it real bad.

I think this is normal. When I installed mine I had to adjust once as I found that it wasn't quite right. After that I've not had to touch them. As far as the chains are concerned they don't have to be perfectly straight. Close is close enough. You won't be sorry for the installation, I know I wasn't.

I first read the post about the DOMETIC frig this afternoon. Called them and got my repair ID number and three choices for repairers. The first one I called told me he had the repair kits on-hand and would come to my trailer and do the fix. So Sat. morn at 10AM he will come and do what needs to be done. Yaaaaaa!

Actually HyLine is slow to respond to emails and seems to evade helping on the phone. They make a good product but as a little company they are still trying to improve customer service. I like that you can have an clean palet to design on and they will make it, to a large extent as you wish. Hard to find a dealer but worth it.
I realize that the OP frig is a 120V only type. I'm just saying that it takes hours to lose the cold and usually one is back on 120V before any problems. Years ago I replaced a worn out 2-way with a 120V and had no problems as most trips were 3 hrs or so. The beer stayed cold.

First I own a 30' Hy-Line TT. They make TTs and 5th Wheels in addition to park models. A close look would reveal that they use very big beams and supports in all their units. I've not seen any that were larger. As far as the frig cooling down when traveling I don't think that would be a big problem. I traveled quite a bit with mine before I realized the fuse for the 12v line to the frig was blown. The food in the freezer never melted. The stuff in the frig stayed cold. It works fine now. I also noted that any movement of stuff in mine seems to be when I brake. So if you control the forward motion of your frig. well enough it probable won't even try to move. I always wondered if Hy-line would sell a park model as a TT. Now I know. You have a great unit and I'm going to Bates tomarrow to see what I can do.

RE: VR1 bunkhouse (bunk size?)

Making the likely assumption that the picture is close to scale the bunk appears to be 86% as long as the queen bed. If any of this is true the bunks appear to be about 5' 8" +/- I wouldn't bet the farm on this but I'm pretty sure (I've looked at these units) they are a bit shorter than an "adult" bed. If you look at the picture it appears that the bunks are roughly the same size as the dinet. What do you think?

I'm offended by your comment. You folks up north gave up your rights to be armed. That's fine. We see this 2nd Amendment issue as important to us. Many have fought and died for these rights. Perhaps staying home would do you well if you can't feel safe here with us.

I have a concealed carry permit in both NY and Fl. If you get caught with an unregistered handgun in New York state plan on staying for a while and you'll not need your TT.
